Management Consultant to Singer-Songwriter: Following a “career whisper”

What happens when the thing you wanted most as a teenager never really goes away - it just gets quieter while you build a “sensible” career?

In this interview, I talk to Tricia Duffy about her pivot: moving from senior roles in TV and consulting to fully owning her identity as a creative - singer, songwriter, podcaster, and researcher.

Tricia shares how her first “whisper” was about reclaiming control of her time, which led her to go freelance and build her consultancy Lily Gray. The second whisper arrived during the pandemic - when creativity stopped being a side project and became the core of what made her feel most aligned.

That shift sparked a chain reaction: a Master’s in songwriting, a “10-year plan” mindset, the confidence to tell the world she’s more than one job title, and a refreshed definition of success that isn’t built around busyness, status, or external approval.

You’ll also hear practical, grounded advice for anyone considering change: make the first step tiny - even 1–5 minutes a day — and let “compound creativity” do the heavy lifting over time.
